River Medway Birds

A collection of bird photos from on and around the River Medway in Kent.

Two Crazy Cats

Crockett and Tubbs are two crazy cats! They are a couple of black and white moggies that live with me, or rather I live with them since they more or less have the run of the place. Purchased for £15 from a chap in Biddenden up the road, they were an absolute steal – great fun and good company though a bit overbearing at times. I think C and T definitely have some Siamese cat ancestry, more than likely traditional Siamese rather than modern – rather ugly imo – big eared Siamese breeds. They have got quite round faces ( apple-heads as breeders call them) , sleek, muscular bodies and beautiful, soft, shiny fur – it is exceptionally fine and shiny, more than any other cats I can remember stroking! Crockett and Tubbs are a also couple of real characters! Crockett – the one with the white spot on his nose – regularly talks to me and goes mad when its playtime. He also likes popcorn. Tubbs likes to play fetch – i throw his mousey toy and he brings it back to me, and we then rinse and repeat a while. They are like dogs really and they follow me everywhere! They are very good natured and have never bitten or scratched me in anger, only when playing.  I keep them indoors because the area around my home isn’t the best for cats plus my previous cat ( a pedigree Norwegian forest cat ) went missing so I am  a little paranoid about letting them out. But I am seriously thinking about taking Crockett and Tubbs for walks. I think it might just work if I used a long lead!

Birds at Aylesford Priory

There’s a nice pond just before the courtyard area of Aylesford Priory and this is accompanied by a patch of grass. There are loads of birds around here including a legendary rare black swan.

Black Hebridian Sheep in Loose Valley

A collection of photos showing black hebridian sheep in their natural environment in Loose Valley in Kent. These sheep are allowed to roam free in various parts of the valley, used as living lawn mowers to keep the greenery under control. They are very rugged creatures, adaptable to various environments such as steep woodland slopes and more than capable of looking after themselves thanks to the beautiful horns the mature sheep sport on their heads.

Birds in Mote Park

I make regular visits to take pics of the birds in mote park, a large public park in Maidstone. Its a really nice place, an oasis in an urban desert filled with about 3 square miles of green fields and lush woodland as well as a pretty little lake in the middle of the park. Its the home to lots of wild birds especially near the lake, where  a wide variety of birds such as ducks, geese, pigeons and cormorants flit about and have fun times. There is also a coffee shop in the park – a nice place to go for hot drink and a bit of cake.

Birds at Loose Stream

Loose stream runs through the picturesque village of Loose (pronounced “lose”) near Maidstone in Kent. The stream is part of the river len, a tributary of the river medway, running from  the north-west via bockingford and passing though the village to the east, eventually meeting Langley Lake.

Loose stream has lots of wildlife – a large group of mallard ducks come here every year to have their babies and various other birds make their home there at various times of the year.
